HSH Senior Partner and Ontario Trial Lawyers Association (OTLA) President-Elect, Adam Wagman featured on CHCH Morning Live.

Changes are coming to Ontario’s car insurance legislation starting on June 1. Insurance premiums are coming down a little (about 10%) but our options and benefits are also dropping.

In this interview, Adam says:

For the worst injured victims, those who suffer catastrophic injuries as a result of a car accident (that is, they are in a wheelchair or have severe brain injuries) benefits are dropping by $1 million dollars. So when it comes to Medical & Rehabilitation and Attendant Care benefits, people are going to have a lot of hard choices to make. Should they renovate their house to make it more accessible or do you get the treatment and care that you need? In the new world, doing both may not be an option. These are decisions that people shouldn’t have to make.

Adam also urges all drivers in Ontario to call their auto insurance broker and/or insurance company to get the Optional Benefits available (an add-on that will be available). Optional Benefits for Medical & Rehabilitation and Attendant Care may put you back at the existing $2 million coverage that accident victims in Ontario currently have access to, if catastrophically injured.
