Every year about 50,000 Canadians undergo operations to correct hernias using surgical mesh products. Up to 20 per cent of people who have procedures involving these implants experience complications. These include infection, nerve damage, adhesions, bowel obstructions, chronic pain and, in serious or untreated cases, death.
A comprehensive consumer awareness campaign has been launched to better inform and educate Canadians about the risks of defective hernia mesh products and how victims may be eligible to participate in a mass tort legal action (individual lawsuit) against manufacturers of these products.
The campaign includes:
- A dedicated website to educate and collect victims for the lawsuit;
- A Facebook support page where victims can share their stories;
- Blogs and News to provide current updates on issues;
This extensive campaign, launched by Howie, Sacks & Henry LLP, is just one community awareness program designed to better assist victims of various defective products, including Asbestos, Talcum Powder and various defective medical devices and implants.
