CTV’s medical specialist, Avis Favro, covered a consumer awareness story on the associated risks of Morcellators. The device is designed to make hysterectomies easier.  Sadly, researchers have found evidence that hysterectomy and uterine fibroid surgeries using the morcellators are capable of seeding cancer cells in a woman’s uterus and abdominal cavity, significantly diminishing their chance of surviving this terrible disease.  Health Canada has warned that use of morcellators increases the risk of spreading cancer.

Paul Miller, head of HSH’s Mass Tort practice is representing Dawn Green, the first woman in Canada to file a law suit for pain and suffering. Five years after her hysterectomy she developed a rare cancer in her abdomen, with life expectancy of five years.

Paul asserted that: “You go into a procedure thinking this is going to cure your problems, and then a year or two later you have stage three cancer.  Something is not right. Something has to change, and companies have to be held accountable if they are responsible.”
