For the third year in a row,
Michael Henry of HSH organized the Personal Injury Bar Charity Hockey
Challenge. Six teams participated in the tournament and raised over
$30,000 for Shoot For A Cure. |
Renee Vinett of HSH, assisted by Corey Sax, achieved a significant result obtaining Judgment at trial of over $1,000,000.00. The client was a passenger in a car accident where he sustained a mild brain injury and facial lacerations. The cognitive issues he experienced apparently resolved. He completed high school and began university. About 6 months after the accident he became obsessed with a minor facial scar. By the next year, his grades had dropped significantly. He became withdrawn and felt persecuted by others. By the following year he was diagnosed with depression. He started hearing voices and his behavior became bizarre. He was eventually diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia. Though he graduated from university and found full time work, he had difficulty maintaining employment. The client’s neuropsychiatrist concluded that he had been misdiagnosed with schizophrenia and opined that he had sustained a mild traumatic brain injury, which led to major psychosis. Experts for the defendant’s insurer opined that he was predisposed to develop schizophrenia, unrelated to the accident. The Jury concluded that his psychosis was related to the accident and awarded the client just over one million dollars. The defendant insurer’s last offer going into trial was zero, making this Judgment all the more impressive. |
