On the evening of Tuesday April 3, 2012 Canlan Sports in Etobicoke will be the venue for the 6th Annual Personal Injury Bar Charity Hockey Challenge- Deloitte Cup. This annual event brings together both Plaintiff and Defence lawyers from all over Ontario, for an evening of hockey in support of charity. The charity of choice is the Canadian Spinal Research Organization's Shoot For A Cure Campaign which raises funds for spinal cord research in order to raise awareness of spinal cord injuries and to promote prevention of hockey related spinal cord injuries.
In 2011, this tournament raised over $55,000 for Shoot For A Cure. "This is a cause that is close to the hearts of all personal injury lawyers, so it is important for both sides of the personal injury bar to come together for the common goal of raising money and awareness for spinal cord injury prevention and hopefully find a cure" comments Michael J. Henry of Howie, Sacks & Henry LLP, organizer of the event. So far the event has raised over $150,000 and 2012's event is expected to be even bigger than the last.
